Mansbach White Salon

The Mansbach White Salon echoes the Venetian Salon in layout and design but speaks in a softer register. Its 18th-century tiled stove, blue with gold accents, mirrors its more ornate sibling next door.

Portraits of the Firmian family line the walls, and rare painted window sashes depict cooks and cupbearers, salvaged from a palace in Lower Austria.

Once a canteen, now a dining space again, the room has been lovingly restored thanks to the support of Salzburg Global Senior Fellow B. Thomas Mansbach.

The multiple uses and transformation of the Mansbach White Salon is just one example of where Salzburg Global continues to try and make an 18th-century Austrian palace fit for a 21st-century world. Explore more examples below.

Greener by Design

Since 2014, Schloss Leopoldskron has been part of Austria’s Climate Alliance, committing to practical, planet-friendly measures. From eco-certified amenities and LED lighting to electric vehicles and fair-trade sourcing, sustainability is woven into daily operations.

A comprehensive master plan is now in motion to restore historic rooms while also preparing the Schloss and Meierhof for a climate-neutral future, proving that even a centuries-old Schloss can lead the way in environmental responsibility.

A Living Stage for the Future

Schloss Leopoldskron’s legacy as a cultural backdrop continues to grow. Since “The Sound of Music” was filmed here in 1964, the Schloss has hosted everything from music videos and fashion shoots to international films and local festivals.

Salzburg Global’s vision includes welcoming new programs, creative collaborations, and events that reimagine what a historic palace can offer—connecting global ideas with local stories, art, and action.
