At Schloss Leopoldskron, sustainability is not a programme or a promise - it is a daily practice shaped by place, responsibility, and long-term thinking. Set beside a lake, surrounded by gardens, and deeply connected to its landscape, the Schloss reminds us that care for people and care for the planet are inseparable.

Our approach is grounded in thoughtful stewardship rather than grand gestures. We focus on practical actions that reduce impact, support local communities, and preserve the character of the estate for future generations - quietly, consistently, and with intention.

How We Care for the Planet

In both the castle and the Meierhof, we consciously make decisions that combine heritage conservation and environmental protection:

Energy efficiency

Energy-efficient heating systems have been installed in the Meierhof, and LED lighting used throughout both the castle and the Meierhof ensures reduced energy consumption.

Responsibility for water use

Water dispensers are available for guests, and we exclusively use refillable glass bottles to avoid single-use plastic.

Conscious housekeeping

Guests are invited to reuse towels multiple times in order to save water and energy without compromising comfort.

Waste reduction and recycling

We reduce waste, promote reuse, and avoid unnecessary packaging, particularly for guest amenities and in the gastronomic area.

Regional and mindful sourcing

We prioritize working with local producers and suppliers, choose organic products whenever possible, and reduce transport emissions.

Sustainable mobility

We support guests in exploring Salzburg in an environmentally friendly way – for example through free bicycle rental and information about public transport.

Sustainable responsibility

Renovation, maintenance, and operations follow the principle of durability and sustainability to preserve the castle as a living place. Instead of striving for perfection, Leopoldskron Castle focuses on continuous development – through learning, adapting, and constantly rethinking how we interact with this place and the world it belongs to.
