“Reinhardt Celebration” at Schloss Leopoldskron

On September 9th, 2023, Salzburg Global hosted a theatre and music gala at Schloss Leopoldskron to celebrate Max Reinhardt’s 150th birthday. The “Reinhardt Celebration” was brought to life in the style of Reinhardt’s legendary parties by renowned Austrian director Michael Sturminger.

In the productions that Reinhardt staged in the Schloss, its various rooms became a stage that the audience moved through during the performance. The “Reinhardt Celebration” recreated this theater experience for guests today with scenes from Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night", Molière's "The Imaginary Invalid”, Richard Strauss' "Ariadne auf Naxos", and more.

Michael Maertens, renowned for his title role as "Everyman" at the 2023 Salzburg Festival, performed the famous scene “Tischgesellschaft” from “Everyman” in the Marble Hall together with former “Paramour” actress Valery Tscheplanowa and students from the Max Reinhardt Seminar. Afterward, Finnish soprano Camilla Nylund sang pieces from “Die Fledermaus” and “Der Rosenkavalier” alongside Czech mezzo-soprano Štěpánka Pučálková. The stars were supported by top students from the Mozarteum University Salzburg.
