Preservation and Sustainability

With generous funding from the Samuel H. Kress Foundation, four art conservation graduate students and two professors from the Conservation Center, Institute of Fine Arts at New York University, and the Winterthur/University of Delaware Program in Art Conservation, completed a three-year preventive conservation project for the long-term preservation of Schloss Leopoldskron. Between 2013 and 2015 many critical tasks were completed in order to preserve the Schloss for future generations. These included the creation of an inventory of over 1100 historic objects, the designation of historic object storage spaces, and the establishment of a Conservation Task Force management team.

Hotel Schloss Leopoldskron is a member of Klimabündnis, an organisation dedicated to protecting the climate and environment. As such the hotel introduced an environmentally friendly towel and cleaning supply management system, changed the lighting in all public areas in the Schloss to LED bulbs, and introduced fair trade, organic, and regional products to the hotel’s product range. Since 2015 guests have access to two complimentary electric vehicle charging stations (one of them a Tesla Destination Charger) as the hotel added an electric BMW i3 car, which is used for daily errands. During the summer of 2016 four bee colonies moved into the Schloss park. The close to 40,000 bees not only help the surrounding meadows, gardens, and forest, but will also supply fully organic honey for the Schloss breakfast buffet as of mid 2017.
