Georg Steinitz, who back then was assistant producer, when asked will happily tell a few stories even today about the filming at Schloss Leopoldskron that didn’t always go smoothly. However, it is a fact that the scene that took place between the two stone sculptured horses by the lakeside is one of the most famous in the entire movie.

At that time a white music pavilion stood in the palace park and played an important role in the film’s romantic scenes. Since the number of tourists increased tremendously after the release of “The Sound of Music”, the pavilion was removed to reduce the congestion in the park at Schloss Leopoldskron.
