For those who have experienced the little paradise of Schloss Leopoldskron, who have breathed the atmosphere and the sounds of birds, water, rustling of leaves in the wind and the scent of untouched natural flora, will understand why Max Reinhardt – with his artistic desire for creating – could not resist building his own garden theater in this open air setting. |
The garden theater represented the heart of the park, which Reinhardt had completely remodeled along with the palace. The stage was surrounded by hedges and statues and even boasted an excavated space for the orchestra, while the stone bleachers could hold as many as 200 spectators. Numerous statues and several seventy-year-old orange trees from Schloss Schönbrunn gave this space a baroque flair. |
