When the theater director Max Reinhardt purchased Schloss Leopoldskron in 1918, a new era began, an era which had the most momentous effect on the palace since it was built in 1736. Born in 1873 as Max Goldmann, he later changed his name to that of a theater character “Reinhardt”. He was director of a Berlin theater (BerlinerVolksbühne) and was famous for founding the “Regietheater”.

Max Reinhardt loved to stage his own life and lived for this art. The acquisition of Schloss Leopoldskron was the realization of his childhood dream and he invested large amounts of money to return the palace to its original splendor. No cost or effort was too great, and it is thanks to his efforts that today Schloss Leopoldskron is an artistic, alive and fascinating place.
