Located next to the Chinese Room and also adjacent to the library we find the McGowan Room, named after an American judge. This room houses literature as well, and possesses an objective, historic character in an unobtrusive setting.

It contains antiques from the 18th century, and according to historic lore was the room where the concept of the Salzburg Festival was developed. It is generally used in combination with the library and/or Chinese Room for various purposes such as buffets, discussions, presentations and as a study area.
